Outcomes

What will you learn?

The LCQ covers two unit standards required for the qualification:

  • Unit Standard 4646: Demonstrate knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and its implications for licensed premises.

  • Unit Standard 16705: Demonstrate knowledge of host responsibility requirements as a duty manager of licensed premises.

Throughout the programme, you will develop an understanding of the legislation governing the sale and supply of alcohol, the responsibilities of licensed premises, and the importance of responsible alcohol service.

Assessment and certification

Assessment requirements will be explained during your programme. You will need to successfully complete the required assessment to achieve the LCQ.

On successful completion, your unit standard credits will be reported to NZQA, and you will receive your LCQ certificate in accordance with the qualification requirements.

What can you do with your LCQ?

The LCQ is a key qualification for people seeking to become a Duty Manager in a licensed premises, including bars, restaurants, cafés, hotels and other businesses that sell or supply alcohol.

After completing your LCQ, you can apply to your local District Licensing Committee (DLC) for a Manager’s Certificate, provided you meet the applicable eligibility and application requirements. A Manager’s Certificate is a separate requirement for people appointed as Duty Managers.
