Blow off the steam, release the endorphins and head outdoors for action-packed fun. Immerse yourself in nature and feel the rush of adrenaline!  Mountain biking is an exciting adventure activity that can improve your strength, focus, balance, coordination, overall fitness and endurance. Gain valuable life skills too while you are having fun! 

A non-load bearing way to gain physical fitness, gain more confidence and think on your feet.  Learn out how to prepare your ride, stay safe and have fun.  Learn how to choose and navigate your trail, as well important technical skills to help you break new ground. Uncover the rich history of your surrounding environment.

Mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori is embedded throughout this programme.

We learn about the cultural significance of each outdoor environment we operate in

We look at the contrast between modern and traditional approaches to the activities.

What you will learn:        

-how to prepare for outdoor adventure – (daytime and overnight)

-vital safety skills for surviving in the wilderness

-technical skills and tips using appropriate equipment for your adventure

-collaboration and how to work together effectively as a team

-how to connect with the great outdoors and connect through the rich history of your environment

Skills active pre-moderated EQNZ resources for the following unit standards

-Demonstrate Grade 3 Mountain Biking

-Prepare for an overnight activity

Mountain Biking Short Course dates - 2 intakes to choose from:

Intake1: 4-day programme over 2 weeks (includes 1 overnight stay)

Week 1: Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th October 2024 (at Wintec)

Week 2: Thursday 10th and Friday 11th October 2024

(on location – Rotorua Whakarewarewa, with overnight camp stay on Thursday night at Thermal Holiday Park)

 

Intake 2: 4-day programme over 2 weeks (includes 1 overnight stay)

Week 1: Thursday 7th and Friday 8th November 2024 (at Wintec)

Week 2: Thursday 14th and Friday 15th October 2024

(on location – Rotorua Whakarewarewa, with overnight camp stay on Thursday night at Thermal Holiday Park)
