Course Description

This two-day course is perfect for anyone who wants to move into a supervisory role when working in horticulture, agriculture, forestry, conservation, environmental management and related fields. Run by Laurence Overton, a certified GROWSAFE trainer, attendees should have previous experience working with agrichemicals under supervision. When the course requirements are completed you will be able to manage most agrichemicals unsupervised and oversee others. The GROWSAFE Standard certificate will be awarded on successful completion of both written and practical on-job assessments.

What You'll learn

This two-day course will teach you how to meet the minimum requirements set by the EPA and Regional Authorities for the use of agrichemicals. The course will teach you Agrichemical formulations, risks and hazard classifications, as well has correct transport and storage methods. You’ll learn how to keep records of dangerous chemicals, how to dispose of them, and what to do in an emergency.

Outcomes

What you'll be able to do with this training

On completion of this course, you will be awarded the GROWSAFE Standard certificate, which will allow you to use agrichemicals independently and without the need for supervision. You will also be certified to supervise others in their use, allowing you to move into roles with more responsibility. This course will teach you how to protect people, animals, the environment and to ensure food safety.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites

Growsafe Basic Certificate (or equivalent knowledge*) plus one season’s practical agrichemical spraying experience.

*equivalent knowledge may include previous unit standard based agrichemical training such as, through a farming or horticulture apprenticeship or course.
