Course Description

If you already hold Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (EAS/Q) registration, the Electrical Service Technician (EST) Upgrade provides a focused pathway to expand your electrical skills into fixed-wired appliances and multi-phase work.

This programme is designed specifically for existing EAS/Q workers, or for people who have completed the EAS/Q training and exam so you can focus on the additional theory and practical skills required for the EST scope without repeating the EAS training you have already completed.

EWRB / ASPEQ Examination

Following successful completion of the required training, you will be able to progress to the EWRB Electrical Service Technician examination through ASPEQ, subject to meeting the applicable EWRB eligibility requirements.

EWRB/ASPEQ examination fees are not included in the course fee. Examination bookings and payments are made directly through ASPEQ.

What You'll Learn

The EST Upgrade builds on your existing EAS/Q knowledge and develops the additional skills required to work within the EST scope.

You will gain knowledge and practical skills in:

• Three-phase electrical fundamentals and motor theory
• Construction, testing, and fault-finding of three-phase extension leads
• Three-phase motor starters and control circuits
• Safe disconnection and reconnection of fixed-wired appliances
• Single-phase and three-phase appliance connections
• Three-phase sub-circuit work
• Safe isolation, testing, and tagging procedures
• Electrical safety, regulations, and EST scope of work requirements
• Preparation for the EWRB Electrical Service Technician examination

The EST Upgrade provides a pathway for existing EAS/Q workers to broaden their scope of electrical work and progress towards Electrical Service Technician (EST) registration with the EWRB.

Once you have successfully completed the required training and met EWRB requirements, EST registration provides an expanded scope of work covering the servicing, repair, and connection of portable and fixed-wired single-phase and three-phase appliances within the EWRB EST scope.

This can open the door to greater opportunities in commercial, industrial, facilities, maintenance, and technical service environments.

Evening Classes

EST-specific content can be completed through six evening sessions, over 3 weeks providing a flexible option for people working full-time.

This will  cover the required EST theory and practical components.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in the EST Upgrade, you must:

• Hold current EAS registration with the EWRB, or provide evidence of previous EAS/Q course completion
• Meet the EWRB eligibility requirements for EST registration
• Be able to safely participate in practical workshop activities
• Hold a current First Aid certificate

Important: This programme is an upgrade pathway and is not intended for learners without prior EAS/Q training or experience.
